Reishi Hot Chocolate

Me: “Girls, would you like a hot chocolate?”

Girls: “Yes pleeeaase!”

Little do they know that they’ll be drinking a deliciously warming hot choccie packed with nutrition as well as immune enhancing & calming actions!!

Reishi is a mushroom that has been used as a medicine for thousands of years. As part of Traditional Chinese Medicine Reishi is commonly used as an immune stimulant as it enhances the body's ability to protect against & fight of infections. Reishi also has a calming effect on the mind & body.

Reishi has recently become quite popular which I love because that means it's much easier to find in powdered form! You can easily find powdered reishi from your local health food store & powdered reishi can be added to many different things...including hot chocolate!

I also use cacao powder in this hot chocolate as cacao powder is the powdered form of raw cacao beans which means it hasn't been processed as much as cocoa & retains more of its nutrition. Cacao is one of the highest known sources of antioxidants!

I love to make this hot chocolate for my girls in the afternoon to help them wind down after a busy day. I also enjoy one when I feel like something sweet after dinner & before bed.

RECIPE

Ingredients

Per serving...

- 1-1 1/2 tsp of cacao powder

- 1/2-1 tsp reishi powder

- 1/2 tsp cinnamon

- 250ml milk of choice

- raw honey to sweeten

Then...

- add everything except the honey to a small pot & heat gently on the stove

- keep stirring so that everything dissolves

- once it’s ready, stir in the honey (adding the honey at the end means more of the medicinal properties of honey is preserved), pour into a cute mug (cute mug not optional!) & enjoy!
