Gut Health

'Gut health' is a popular buzz phrase...

But what exactly is gut health?  

When the term gut health is used, it's usually referring to the microbiome within our gut which is made up of thousands of types of microscopic organisms such as bacteria, viruses, yeasts & fungi. As well as in our gut, we have microbiome in other areas of our bodies such as our mouth & skin. It has been estimated that in human body there are more microbial cells than there are human cells.

New research is released frequently showing the many ways in which the microbiome in our gut can affect the function of other areas in our body. As well as digestion, these areas include mental health, the immune system & skin conditions.

Dysbiosis is a gut health condition that you also may have heard of. Dysbiosis within the gut relates to an imbalance of microbes, with more bad microbes & less good microbes causing inflammatory toxins to circulate throughout our body, resulting in a number of digestive disturbances & other health conditions.
